  11.        So, what is UserScan/UserDoor ?? I've always thought that programs
  12.    were best described by the author, so I will use his own words from the
  13.    documentation:

  15.        UserScan and UserDoor are full featured user management tools for
  16.    the TriBBS sysop. They incorporate a wide variety of user search
  17.    criteria with full user data editing. Now they also have a UserGram
  18.    communications tool. Lastly, they can use the search criteria to output
  19.    a text file containing a list of the matches, or to send out UserGrams
  20.    to groups.
  21.  
  22.        When you first enter UserScan/UserDoor you will get the following
  23.    Menu:

  27.         (N) Search by NAME or Alias
  28.         (P) Search by PHONE #
  29.         (S) Search by SECURITY level
  30.         (A) Search by AGE
  31.         (E) Search by EXPIRATION

  33.         (F) Search by Private File Area ACCESS
  34.         (D) Dump Results to FILE
  35.         (U) Send USERGRAM to all matches
  36.         (Q) QUIT

  40.        We will take a few minutes and look at each area.
  41.  
  42.                  Searches
  43.  
  44.      Searches for users may use the following criteria selected from the
  45.      main menu:
  46.  
  47.      NAME:           You may enter a full name or a fragment of the
  48.              desired name. All users that have that fragment in
  49.              their name will be displayed one at a time.
  50.      SECURITY LEVEL:     You may enter a security level. All users with
  51.              that security level will be displayed one at a
  52.              time. You may proceed the security level with a
  53.              "-" character to display the users with a security
  54.              level less than or equal to a given level. Or you
  55.              may use a "+" to display the users with a security
  56.              level greater than or equal to a given level.
  57.      PHONE:          You may enter a phone number or a fragment
  58.              thereof. All users whose phone number contains the
  59.              fragment will be displayed one at a time.
  60.      AGE:        Age searches function exactly like a security
  61.              level search.
  62.      EXPIRATION:     You may choose to search for users whose
  63.              subscriptions  have expired, users who have "none"
  64.              for an expiration date, or users whose expiration
  65.              dates are approaching. For an approaching
  66.              expiration date, you will prompted to enter the
  67.              number of days ahead you want to look, to a max of
  68.              180 days.
  69.      PRIVATE CONFERENCE
  70.    AND FILE AREA ACCESS  You will be shown each private file area
  71.              /conference and be asked if you want to display
  72.              the users with access.

  74.             EDITING A USER RECORD
  75.  
  76.    Each user matching a search criteria will be displayed on at a time.

  92.     (ENTER) for Next, (U) send UserGram, (Q) to Quit

  95.     To edit a field press the character in parenthesis before the
  96.     field. You will be prompted for the new entry. To exit without changing
  97.     the field, press enter on a blank line. This does not hold tru for
  98.     editing the expiration date, where pressing enter on a blank line
  99.     results in an entry of "none".

  102.     1. A user who is currently logged on the board can not be edited
  103.     2. Unregistered copies of the software will only permit the editing of
  104.        the user's security level.

  106.                SENDING USERGRAMS
  107.  
  108.     UserScan and UserDoor now have a new tool for the sysop; UserGrams.
  109.     UserGrams are user specific logon screens sent to the user by the
  110.     sysop. UserGrams may be sent to single users from the display / edit
  111.     screen or they may be sent to a group of users by setting up the
  112.     UserGram at the Main Menu.

  114.     Sending Individual UserGrams
  115.  
  116.     From the display / edit users scren, choose 'U' for UserGram. You will
  117.     then have the choice of using an external file or using the internal
  118.     editor. If you choose to use the external file, you enter the name of
  119.     the ANSI version of the file and then the name of the ASCII (non-color)
  120.     version of the file. These files will be copied to user spacific logon
  121.     screens for that user. If you choose to use the internal editor, you
  122.     will be able to enter a 14 line message to the user. It will then be
  123.     converted to ANSI and ASCII logon screens for that user.

  125.     Sending Group UserGrams
  126.     From the main menu select 'U' for UserGram. Again you may use an
  127.     external file or the internal editor. On your next search, the UserGram
  128.     will be sent to ALL matches. Each Time you return to the Main Menu, the
  129.     UserGram selection is cleared.

  131.                 REGISTRATION
  132.  
  133.     Registration is only $15 and it will allow you access to editing
  134.     all areas of the user record (not just the security) and you will also
  135.     receive Keith's eternal thanks (WOW!) Your registration will be good
  136.     for all future versions of the program.

  138.                 The Future
  139.  
  140.       Well, I have it on good athority, that there will be a release
  141.     soon of an uncrippled version. This will allow you to fully test all
  142.     options on the menu. Registration is still required though.
  143.  
  144.             What Can I Use it For ??
  145.  
  146.       The applications for UserScan\UserDoor are almost as limitless as
  147.      your imagination. Several good uses come to mind right off the bat.
  148.      Recently I used it to inform all my 19 and younger users about the
  149.      introdution of a new Teen Conference on the BBS. I selected UserGram
  150.      and then did a search of all users 19 and younger. I then sent them
  151.      all a UserGram about the new Conference.
  152.      Another good use is for a BBS that Screens users before allowing
  153.      full access. Lets say you grant new users limited access and a
  154.      security of 10 on their first logon. You can then use
  155.      UserScan/UserDoor to search for all those new users, upgrade their
  156.      security, and send them a UserGram welcoming them to the board and
  157.      describing any information they may need to know.
  158.       There are many more uses, but these are just a few.

  160.      UserScan and UserDoor are available on most TriBBS Support Boards,
  161.      as well as the Authors. It can also be found on Imagine. If you have
  162.      a Front End and the TTN Nodelist, you can FREQ it from here any time.
